VIII. International Congress on Domestic Animal Breeding Genetics and Husbandry - 2024 (ICABGEH - 24)
Antalya, TÜRKİYE - September 23 - 25, 2024

The International Congress on Domestic Animal Breeding, Genetics and Husbandry-2024 (ICABGEH-24) was held on September 23 - 25, 2024, in Antalya, TÜRKİYE. The ICABGEH-24 was a hybrid event comprising both physical and virtual conferences. The ICABGEH-24 was organized by Ondokuz Mayıs University, Akdeniz University, Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University, S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, and the University of Agriculture in Krakow.

ICABGEH-24 was the eighth event of the international meeting series with the participation of very popular invited speakers Dr. Zeynel CEBECİ (Cukurova University), Dr. Jørgen Steen AGERHOLM (University of Copenhagen), Dr. Edit Jona MIKO (University of Szeged), Dr. Daniel ZABORSKI (West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin), and Dr. Jose Pedro ARAUJO (The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo). This event brought together leading researchers, engineers, and scientists in the domain of interest worldwide. It also provided opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face and virtually, to establish business or research relations, and to find global partners for future collaboration.
Many scientists from universities and research centers in many countries attended the meeting. There were approximately 150 participants from 25 countries, both physically and online. I would like to sincerely thank these esteemed participants who gave us confidence by attending the congress in Antalya.

The organizing committee has thoughtfully planned and worked towards enabling the international animal science community to meet the challenges and to move safely and successfully into the advanced information era. To this end, ICABGEH-24 has been focused on recent developments, such as research on animal science aiming at protecting the environment and food safety. Thus, ICABGEH-2024 achieved its main twofold objective: First, the presentation of current research works in the field of animal science, and second, connecting the animal science community.

Dr. Zeynel CEBECİ (Cukurova University)

Prof. Dr. Zeynel Cebeci is a senior scholar in the Department of Biometry and Genetics, Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Science at Çukurova University, specializing in applied statistics, bioinformatics, biometric methods, animal breeding, and genetic diversity. He earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees at Çukurova University in Zootecny / Biometry and Genetics. Over his academic career, he has published ~197 works in total, including 8 in SCI/SSCI/AHCI-indexed journals, and has participated in 28 research projects. According to AVESIS metrics, he has modest h-indices in major databases (WoS h-index ~1; Scopus h-index ~2), with citation counts in WoS ~10, Scopus ~15, but a much larger total citation number on Google Scholar (~1,437). His research fields encompass agricultural sciences (animal nutrition, breeding), statistics, computer science applications (clustering, genome-wide association studies), R packages development (e.g., groupcompare, ppclust, inaparc), and he holds editorial and reviewer roles in several national and international journals.

Dr. Jørgen Steen AGERHOLM (University of Copenhagen)

Prof. Dr. Jørgen Steen Agerholm is a staff member in the Veterinary Reproduction and Obstetrics at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, with a long-standing academic and diagnostic career in veterinary pathology, particularly reproductive pathology and teratology. He holds a DVM (1987), PhD in Veterinary Pathology (1990), and a Doctor of Veterinary Science (dr.med.vet.; 2007). Over ≈ 35 years he has investigated congenital syndromes, fetal diseases, causes of abortion, and inherited disorders in domestic mammals—with expertise spanning gross and microscopic pathology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, neuropathology, and diagnostic and experimental animal studies. Prof. Agerholm has authored more than 170 journal articles, numerous conference abstracts and posters, contributed to patents (including genetic testing in cattle), led teaching in reproduction, obstetrics, and pathology, held editorial leadership roles (including Editor-in-Chief of Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica), and serves on national advisory boards in animal health and welfare.

Dr. Edit Jona MIKO (University of Szeged)

Prof. Dr. Edit Mikó is Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and an Associate Professor at the Institute of Animal Sciences and Wildlife Management, University of Szeged. She earned her degree from the Faculty of Animal Sciences at the University of Kaposvár in 2002, with prior practical experience as a cattle farmer between 1993-2000. She joined the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Szeged in 2004, defended her doctoral thesis in 2012, and was habilitated in 2017. She teaches cattle breeding (in both Hungarian and English) among other animal husbandry courses, and her research focuses on dairy cattle breeding—studying key parameters such as productive lifetime, reproduction, health and how these interact with environmental changes. According to ResearchGate, she has around 50 publications, with approximately 150 citations.

Dr. Daniel ZABORSKI (West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin)

Prof. Dr. Daniel Zaborski is an academic based at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, where he works in the Laboratory of Biostatistics / Department of Ruminant Science and focuses on applying quantitative methods to animal breeding and livestock research. His research portfolio spans biostatistics, bioinformatics, machine learning, and data mining methods for ruminant and livestock management, with applied projects on genetic parameter estimation, inbreeding analyses, breed classification, and welfare-related phenotypes. Zaborski is a prolific author and co-author of peer-reviewed studies and book chapters addressing cattle, horse, and goat genetics and reproduction, and has served as guest editor for special issues on machine learning and statistics in animal science. He is active in international collaboration and invited lecturing (including workshops on bioinformatics and statistical applications), and regularly contributes to conferences and interdisciplinary projects that bridge quantitative methods and practical animal breeding. His work is characterized by integrating modern computational techniques with classical quantitative genetics to improve selection strategies and decision-support tools for livestock producers and researchers.

Dr. Jose Pedro ARAUJO (The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo).

Prof. Dr. José Pedro Pinto de Araújo is a staff member in the  Animal Science at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Portugal. He earned his PhD in Animal Science with specialization in Nutrition and Bromatology of Foods from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2006, having previously obtained an MSc in Animal Production Technologies from UTAD and a BSc in Agricultural Sciences – Animal Production from the University of the Azores. He coordinates the Master’s in Animal Science (Zootecnia) at ESA-IPVC, is an integrated member of the Mountain Research Center (CIMO), and collaborates with the Centre for Research and Development in Agro-Food Systems and Sustainability (CISAS). His research interests include animal genetic resources, organic farming, meat quality, and animal welfare. He has authored/co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference communications, supervises doctoral and master's theses, and holds leadership roles such as Vice President of the Portuguese Society for Animal Genetic Resources (SPREGA) and Commissioner in the National Coordination and Follow-Up Commission for the National Plan for Animal Genetic Resources.
